The Salesman 2

A last-minute addition to the Cannes Film Festival, Asghar Farhadi‘s The Salesman is also near the top of our most-anticipated of the slate. His follow-up to The Past, which also premiered at Cannes, fairly recently wrapped up production and after some rumors of what the plot may entail, we now have confirmation and some new images.

Led by Shahab Hosseini and Taraneh Alidoosti, two frequent collaborators who have been seen in A Separation, and together in About Ellythe film was thought to be a Death of a Salesman riff in which a couple performs Arthur Miller’s classic play while experiencing marital strife.

It looks like that won’t be the case, or at least it’s not apparent in an official synopsis from Memento Films, which reads, “Forced out of their apartment due to dangerous works on a neighboring building, Emad and Rana move into a new flat in the center of Tehran. An incident linked to the previous tenant will dramatically change the young couple’s life.”

As we look forward to Farhadi’s latest feature, check back for our review, as well as U.S. distribution news, and see the new images below.
