Last summer, 23-year-old Canadian auteur Xavier Dolan announced his fourth film project, an adaptation of Michel-Marc Bouchard’s play Tom à la Ferme (Tom at the Farm). The filmmaker was, at that time, working on the script, and hoped to have production completed by year’s end. After months of no public developments, it seems Dolan was able to adhere to his deadline.
The publication A Life in Film spotted a poster for Tom at the Farm whilst covering the Berlin International Film Festival. Based on the warped artwork and foreboding tagline, the poster could foretell of a far more chilling film than suggested in its description: the story of a gay man who travels to his dead lover’s funeral, only to realize that his beloved’s family was not aware of their son’s sexual orientation. As we mentioned before, the outing is a perfect fit for the Dolan, whose work – such as the Cannes 2012 drama, Laurence Anyways – explores the complicated and provocative theme of sexuality.

Synopsis:

Tom at the Farm was acquired by MK2 International last month, but the company has yet to set a release date.
