While The Expendables was a financial success, any other success or merit it achieves comes with a couch, a room full of friends and copious amounts of beer.

That said, for those of you who enjoyed the film, you may be disappointed to find that Sylvester Stallone shan’t be returning to write or direct the film’s inevitable sequel, now creatively titled The Expendables 2. Stallone is still obviously returning as the team’s go-to guy, Barney Ross, with the only other confirmed member being Randy Couture as Toll Road (really? that was his name? *sigh*). Other possible members may include Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Bruce Willis, who may be returning in a “super-villain” capacity. As far as writers and directors go, David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys, The Missing) will be penning, with no word yet on who will helm, although I’m certain Stallone will come up with shortlist after shortlist. I enjoyed The Expendables, like I said, as movie to get drunk with your friends and watch, but a sequel seems unnecessary, as most sequels often do. However, given that we’re getting one whether we like it or not, I’m certain that the lack of Italian Stallion behind the pen and camera won’t serve as a huge detriment to the overall quality (or lack thereof) in the action franchise.

What are your thoughts on Stallone dropping out as writer/director? Who would you like to see take over?
