Consider my excitement for Men In Black III raised, or rather, begun. THR is reporting that the star of my favorite film of 2009, Michael Stuhlbarg, has joined the cast of Barry Sonnenfeld‘s troubled production. The star of A Serious Man and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire will play the character previously attached to Sharlto Copley (District 9), named Griffin. The character is a “fast-talking Yoda type alien.” Sounds right up his alley.

We saw set pictures of stars Will Smith and Josh Brolin yesterday. Joining them is Alice Eve, who plays a young Emma Thompson, as they race to save the world in 1969. David Koepp (Spider-Man, War of the Worlds) penned the screenplay alongside Etan Cohen and Jeff Nathanson.

Men In Black III hits theaters May 25th, 2012 in 3D. One can see Stuhlbarg this winter in Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo Cabret.

What do you think of Stuhlbarg joining the film? Has your interest increased?
