MTV spoke with Max Brooks, author of the acclaimed zombie novel World War Z and he just got news that Paramount is pushing forward with the film with Brad Pitt attached to star. In 2007 Pitt’s production company got film rights and now Brooks just got the call while signing copies at the Avatar Press booth. Check out his quote below.
I can’t believe how cool Paramount has been to me and these projects, and how cool Plan B has been…I’m glad they took their time, and are trying to make the best zombie movie they can. I’m so glad they stayed with the project and so glad they found the right team.
J. Michael Straczynski wrote the original script, but Matthew Michael Carnahan just submitted a new draft. Marc Forster is still attached to direct.
Brooks also “revealed that Paramount has optioned the movie rights to two more of his projects: The Zombie Survival Guide and The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks graphic novel.”
I really enjoyed World War Z, but continue to wonder how it can make a compelling film. The book is entirely told of firsthand accounts of the past worldwide zombie outbreak. I’d love to see the script and if they will change up the style.
World War Z is planned for a summer 2012 release.
