With Jeremy Renner signed on to lead The Bourne Legacy for director Tony Gilroy, he is reportedly close to landing his female co-star. Deadline lets us know that Rachel Weisz is in “deep talks” to join Universal’s action blockbuster. With Renner and Weisz’s age less than a year apart, they would actually make a great fit.

The problem arises with Weisz’s busy schedule. She is currently in talks to join Sam Raimi‘s Oz: The Great And Powerful for Disney, as we reported a week ago. The film already has James Franco and Mila Kunis on board and with production looking to start this summer, it could overlap with Bourne’s September shoot. There is a chance she’ll be able to do both and we’ll find out soon. Renner will play “an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne,” but Weisz’s possible role is currently unknown.

She was able to strut her action prowess in the first two Mummy films. I’ve since loved her work in The Constant Gardner (in which she won an Academy Award for), The Fountain, and The Brothers Bloom. She’ll be reteaming with Fernando Meirelles for his drama 360, as well as Terrence Malick‘s untitled romantic drama, and starring with Daniel Craig in Dream House later this year. I’d like to see her team with Renner, or even better, go toe-to-toe with him.

Universal plans to release The Bourne Legacy next summer.
