After trying his darndest with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, director David Slade is making his return to the vampire world with The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The 30 Days of Night director plans to tackle ambitious story by Bragi Schut. Based on a section from Bram Stoker‘s novel, the film follows a voyage on the Demeter, “the ship that transported Dracula from Transylvania to London.” The Alien-style story sees “a crew slaughtered one-by-one by a mysterious passenger.”

THR
first reported the story and included Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace in the casting race, but Bleeding Cool comes with the news that Jude Law is currently in discussions with producers for the lead role. With, Robert Schwentke, Marcus Nispel, and Stefan Ruzowitzky all previously attached to direct at one point, it looks like the gig is for Slade. They are currently securing financing, which should be an easier feat after Eclipse‘s almost $700-million worldwide take.

Law has hit a bit of a rough patch with the disastrously performing Repo Men and two projects I had hoped for greater things with (Sherlock Holmes and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus). This year is looking up as he has Steven Soderbergh‘s Contagion (view a few set pictures below via JustJared) and Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo Cabret.

What do you think of Law possibly joining Demeter?
