One small Danish work comes to mind when I think of brilliant, but disturbing, dramas and today the domestic trailer for that film is out. The Hunt is a frightening, must-see film starring Mads Mikkelsen (A Royal Affair, NBC’s Hannibal). Released last year overseas and well-received throughout Europe, Mikkelsen took Best Actor at Cannes Film Festival last year for what is Danish director Thomas Vinterberg‘s best work to date.

Following a recently divorced teacher fighting for custody of his young son, Lucas struggles with life after the split, but he finds a new love and get some positive news about the guardianship of his child. However, when a young child makes a vicious accusation against him, everything goes awry sending his life into mayhem.

Co-starring Vinterberg regular Thomas Bo Larsen and Danish newcomer Annika Wedderkopp, we called it one of the best at last year’s festival, saying it’s a “perfectly paced and never striking a false note even despite its taboo subject matter…Vinterberg has built a world of observation that’s deceivingly simple and undeniably thought-provoking.” Check out the new trailer below, along with our full review.

The Hunt arrives on July 12th.
