Marvel, intent on milking the superhero film genre until it’s a dead, dry husk, is bringing another of it’s lesser-known titles to the big screen: The Inhumans. [via BadAss Digest and It’s On The Grid]

The Marvel Universe films have stayed relatively Earth-centric (with the notable exception of Fantastic Four and it’s sequel), but they’re going to the dark side of the moon with this one. Literally. That’s where The Inhumans live, having been created by those meddlesome Marvel aliens the Kree millions of years ago:

“Aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell aliens to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don’t want to cause war.”

All we know about this would-be new franchise is that the project is out to writers. No producer or director is on board.. and it could disappear or gather steam in the coming months.

With the film rights of Marvel’s biggies – Spider-Man and The X-Men – held by other studios, Marvel is digging deep into its niche titles to augment its ambitious Avengers enterprise. A fine idea in theory – the problem is, not everyone has heard of some of these comics, and relative obscurity can easily translate into box office indifference – DC Vertigo learned this lesson with 2010’s forgotten The Losers.

Are you familiar with The Inhumans? Are you secretly wishing for an adaptation of Sgt. Rock?
