After starting out the day with the trailer for the Palme d’Or contender Two Days, One Night, then getting the U.S. preview of James Gray‘s The Immigrant, today brings a welcome Marion Cotillard hat trick with the arrival of the first images for her currently-shooting adaptation of Macbeth. Coming from Australia’s Justin Kurzel (who gave us the stellar, dark drama Snowtown), Michael Fassbender is her counterpart for the William Shakespeare adaptation.

“He’s suffering from post traumatic stress disorder,” the latter star tells Daily Mail (who have the first stills) when it comes to his character. “It makes total sense, when you think about it. Justin set the seed of the idea in my head. He’d been away fighting and when he returns, we see it’s a relationship that’s broken down. They lost a child, and there wasn’t time for them to grieve because he’s been away campaigning.”

One can head over to the source to see more details on the highly-anticipated film, but they do confirm that an early 2015 U.K. release is in store, which could mean The Weinstein Company will put this one out by the end of the year here. Also starring Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Sean Harris, Jack Reynor and Elizabeth Debicki, check out the new images above and below.
