Before the fall season truly gears up, we hope a certain film doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. God Help the Girl, now expanding and available on VOD, marks the impressive directorial debut of Belle & Sebastian‘s Stuart Murdoch. I found the story following a youthful band to be brimming with sincere energy, backed by an infectious soundtrack. It’s a deeply personal work and one that has been brewing in Murdoch’s mind for around a decade.

We’ve now got an extensive look behind-the-scenes of the creation thanks to a five-part, 30-minute documentary debuting on Pitchfork. Running through the origins, casting, music, production, and completion, it features interviews with the director, producers, actors, and more. They discuss the original album created to go alongside the project, the Kickstarter campaign, and we even get a peek at its Sundance premiere and live performance. Check it out below in full.
