After Beginners and The Tree of Life took home the top prizes last year, it’s time for The Independent Filmmaker Project to get back into the game again with their nominations for the 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards. Leading the main awards for Best Feature are Bernie, The Loneliest Planet, The Master, Middle of Nowhere and Moonrise Kingdom, while the documentary category have recognized Detropia, How To Survive a Plague, Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present, Room 237 and The Waiting Room.

In some nice surprises, Mike Birbiglia was nominated for breakthrough actor in Sleepwalk with Me, while director Zal Batmanglij got recognized for Sound of My Voice. It’s a bit surprising to not see Beasts of the Southern Wild get a nod for Best Feature after its Sundance praise, but both director Benh Zeitlin and Quvenzhané Wallis got nominations in their respective categories. Check out all the nominations below.
