Star of District 13: Ultimatum, the French actress Elodie Yung, has a big year ahead of her. She stars as Rooney Mara‘s lesbian girlfriend in David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and you can even see a glimpse of her in the simply awesome trailer. THR now reports she is getting back to her ass-kicking roots with another big blockbuster.

She is currently in talks to join Channing Tatum in the sequel to G.I. Joe. She would play “a ninja member of the Joe squad named Jinx.” As someone who has zero attachment to this franchise, Wikipedia tells me she “is one of only a handful of G.I. Joe Team members whose real name is top secret” and she is fantastic at martial arts, getting trained from a young age.

Despite thinking the first film was garbage, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon Chu‘s 3D sequel piqued my interest with a single name. This week it was announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was joining the film, the actor who helped to revitalize another franchise I had zero interest in: Fast and Furious.

There is no word yet whether Sienna Miller, Marlon Wayans, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rachel Nichols, Said Taghmaoui, Dennis Quaid, Christopher Eccleston, or Arnold Vosloo will return, but many signs point to now, as this film will introduce a new set of characters. We do know Joseph Gordon-Levitt smartened up and will not be coming back. After all, when you get offered to star in The Dark Knight Rises, would you really go back to this kid stuff?

G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes hits theaters on August 10th, 2012 and will begin production late this summer in New Orleans.

What do you think of Yung’s involvement? If you disliked the first film, are you interested in this one?
