One of the most-anticipated titles amongst the Cannes Film Festival line-up will be unveiled shortly, Gaspar Noé‘s 3D erotic epic Love. Ahead of the premiere, we have another look at the film, which follows a man reflecting on two years of a relationship, thanks to the first full clip, a batch of images, and Gaspar Noé‘s director’s statement.

The film also picked up U.S. distribution ahead of the midnight Cannes screening this evening, thanks to Alchemy, but some have wondered if we’ll get the full version due to its graphic nature. “Alchemy supports Noe’s vision and is excited to bring the Cannes version to theaters and as many platforms as possible in the U.S.,” the company’s VP Brooke Forde tells THR. “We will do everything we can to protect this masterful film.” Thankfully, Alchemy isn’t required to get an MPAA rating, so we can hopefully expect an unrated version to arrive this year as Forde concludes, “We are not in the business of retooling or censoring an artist’s work.”

When it comes to the first full clip, it shows what looks to be an initial moment of intimacy for our three main leads (Karl Glusman, Aomi Muyock, and Klara Kristin) and clearly an inspiration of the film’s main poster, backed by Funkadelic‘s “Maggot Brain.” Along with the images (including one that’s NSFW), the director’s statement reveals that out of all of Noé’s films, he says, “this one is closest to what I have been able to know of existence, and also the most melancholic. And it gives me a lot of pleasure to be able to share this short tunnel of joys and ecstasies, accidents and mistakes.”

January the 1st, early morning. The telephone rings. Murphy wakes up next to his young wife and 2-year-old child. He listens to his voicemail: Electra’s mother, sick with worry, wants to know whether he has heard from her daughter. Electra’s been missing for a long time. She’s afraid something really bad has happened to her. Over the course of a long rainy day, Murphy finds himself alone in his apartment, reminiscing about the greatest love affair of his life, his two years with Electra. A burning passion full of promises, games, excesses and mistakes…
