Sharks had their time in the spotlight, but now it’s time for a new monster to take over, and Epic Pictures has it covered.

On the heels of Sharknado comes Big Ass Spider, a self-explanatory horror comedy from director Mike Mendez. The feature – which made its world premiere at SXSW last March – stars Greg Grunberg and Lombardo Boyar as an unlikely pair of heroes out to save LA from a mammoth, bloodthirsty arachnid. While Epic’s roster of releases would suggest schlock on par with Asylum, a new trailer for the film offers some genuine laughs – mostly thanks to the charming Boyar – a self-aware tone, and decent CGI. But just in case anyone doubts its B-movie cred, Big Ass Spider also has cult character actor Ray Wise in a supporting role, and Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman in a cameo appearance. Regardless, there’s more than enough here to satisfy any bad movie fan. See trailer and synopsis below:

Synopsis:

The unlikely heroic duo of a blue-collar exterminator (Greg Grunberg) and Latino security guard (Lombardo Boyar) must save the day when a giant spider escapes from a military lab and rampages the city of Los Angeles.

Big Ass Spider opens in theater and on VOD on Oct. 18th.
