When we first got word on the upcoming drama Dallas Buyer’s Club nearly a year and a half ago, its two main leads were thought to be secured with Matthew McConaughey and Hilary Swank. While the former is most certainly leading — as evidence in some wild photos tracking his weight loss for the role — the latter star had dropped, but we’ve now got word of a replacement.

According to Deadline, Jennifer Garner is in talks to take the female lead role in the film that follows Ron Woodroof, a “homophobe redneck cowboy,” in the actor’s own words, whose HIV contraction led to the life of a mule for experimental remedies during the virus’ early days. Directed by Jean-Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria), Garner will join Gael Garcia Bernal as Dr. Eve Saks, who is heavily involved the medical proceedings.

Shooting kicks off on the $5 million production in November for a likely fall 2013 release.

Are you looking forward to Garner joining McConaughey?
