British-born actor Ed Westwick, star of hit TV show Gossip Girl, has finally cemented his place on the Hollywood rising star list by bagging a major supporting role in new movie, J. Edgar. According to Deadline, Westwick will play operative, Agent Smith, who is asked by J. Edgar Hoover (played by Leonardo Dicaprio) to write his biography, thereby leading him a little too close to the truth about the manipulative FBI director.
The Clint Eastwood-directed movie has lost Charlize Theron as Helen Gandy to Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, and rumour has it that Naomi Watts or Amy Adams may be up to take her place. Armie Hammer (The Social Network) has also been announced as playing Clyde Tolson, Hoover’s assistant and mistress. J. Edgar is being produced by Imagine Entertainment and Eastwood‘s Malpaso.
