First and foremost, let me wish a happy birthday to writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson. One of our greatest filmmakers, behind Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, and Hard Eight, turns 41 today and he is currently celebrating it by shooting his next feature, The Master.

The film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a man “who returns after witnessing the horrors of WWII and tries to rediscover who he is in post-war America. He creates a belief system, something that catches on with other lost souls.” Loosely based on L. Ron Hubbard, the creator of Scientology, Joaquin Phoenix plays Freddie, “a young drifter who is swept up in the movement and becomes Hoffman’s character’s lieutenant. As everything builds, however, Freddie begins to question the system he’s helped to create.”

The cast also includes Amy Adams, Laura Dern, David Warshofsky, Rami Malek, Jesse Plemons, Madisen Beaty, and most recently Joshua Close and Fiona Dourif. We have set photos of what looks to be Dourif, incorrectly cited as Adams on the highly astute publication Celebrity Gossip. The photos of the True Blood actress were taken on the Berkeley, California set yesterday. Check out a few below of her in 1940’s get-up and the rest at the site.

The Master is aiming for a late 2012 release.
