We now know the release dates of two upcoming films thanks to Box Office Mojo. First is the Sundance hit Cyrus, directed by the Duplass Brothers and starring John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill, Marisa Tomei and Catherine Keener. Fox Searchlight has positioned this the same exact time frame as their Sundance hit last year, (500) Days of Summer. It will come out July 9th. Although it will likely be a limited release, this is the same weekend as Fox’s Predators and Universal’s animated feature, Despicable Me. It will be a week after Knight and Day starring Tom Cruise and a week before Christopher Nolan‘s Inception.  Check out our review round-up here and the trailer here.

Plot: With John’s social life at a standstill and his ex-wife about to get remarried, a down on his luck divorcee finally meets the woman of his dreams, only to discover she has another man in her life – her son. Written and directed by Jay and Mark Duplass, the iconoclastic filmmaking team behind Sundance Film Festival favorite THE PUFFY CHAIR, CYRUS takes an insightful and funny look at love and family in contemporary Los Angeles.

The next film is Kevin Macdonald‘s The Eagle of the Ninth which stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell. The film will see a release on Sept. 24th, next to Warner Brother’s animation Guardians of Ga’Hoole. That film was recently announced to be in 3D. This is only a week before David Fincher‘s The Social Network, Matt ReevesLet Me In (Let The Right One In remake) and David Gordon Green‘s Your Highness. Macdonald was behind State of Play and The Last King of Scotland, so I’m pretty excited for this film.

Plot: The Eagle of the Ninth is set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain. In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (played by Channing Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Jamie Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian’s Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the lost legion’s golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth. The movie also stars Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong, and Tahar Rahim.
