Despite being in my favorite film of the last decade, Clive Owen‘s career hasn’t exactly skyrocketed the way it should. Since that Alfonso Cuarón classic in 2006, Duplicity has been his only role that seemed to go above and beyond what I’d expect from the actor, and even I fall into the minority on that one. So, it comes with excitement that the actor is teaming up with one of Hollywood’s great screenwriters.
Variety reports that Owen will star in an action film from Raging Bull and Taxi Driver scribe Paul Schrader. From Moonstone Entertainment, Recall follows Owen as “an NSA agent trying to piece together the events of a botched hostage rescue operation. As he begins to recall events and unearth the truth, he finds he can trust neither his fellow soldiers nor his own mind.”
Malice, Taps and Mercury Rising director Harold Becker hasn’t made a film in over a decade (his last feature being the John Travolta thriller Domestic Disturbance), but he has signed on to helm this project. The concept seems a little Bourne, but I could definitely see Own fitting right into this plot and I’m hoping that Schrader has crafted a tight thriller. As for Owen, he has Juan Carlos Fresnadillo‘s Intruders coming (which recieved mixed reviews out of TIFF) and the more promising Shadow Dancer from James Marsh.
Recall plans to shoot next spring in Bulgaria and Washington D.C.
