According to Production Weekly, award-winning actress Christina Ricci will be taking on the role of Clotilde in Bel Ami, a drama to be directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod. The film also stars Robert Pattinson who will play Georges Duroy, a young man who rises to power in nineteenth century Paris using his manipulative skills over the city’s most influential and wealthy women. Bel Ami is based on a book written by Guy de Maupassant and is not slated for release until 2011.
With the rest of the cast yet to be announced, Bel Ami already has two reliable box office winning leads that are sure to give it the attention it needs to be a success. Twilight fans have already had a taste of Pattinson in period clothes with his role in Little Ashes, and have been charmed by Ricci in Penelope. As for Bel Ami gaining critical acclaim, we will simply have to wait and see.
