THR reports that Universal’s Ouija project — based on the board game which supposedly allows the player to contact the forces from beyond — has two major directing candidates: Breck Eisner, helmer of this year’s underrated remake of The Crazies, and McG, director of the Charlie’s Angels movies.

McG returned to L.A. after wrapping his work on This Means War for Fox in Vancouver, and Eisner has pitched his vision for the film to the studio. No specifics about the plot have been revealed beyond the earth-shattering news that it’ll be a “a four-quadrant supernatural adventure centering around a family” — which seems like a no-brainer. Universal is hoping for something as crowd-pleasing as The Mummy or Indiana Jones. Again, not a surprise.

Possible directors have come and gone on this project. Sylvain White (The Losers) and Pierre Morel (Taken) didn’t get the job after the studio did not approve of their vision. Talks also fell through with John Moore (Max Payne) and Scot Stewart (Legion).

Now we wait in breathless anticipation for the next tent-pole based on a board game, because Hollywood is running out of comic book properties to acquire. Battleship and Monopoly are going, and Hungry Hungry Hippos can’t be far behind.

What do you think of the two directorial candidates for Ouija? Who would you like to see take the helm on this project?
