Having recently joined the eclectic cast of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Inherent Vice, Benicio Del Toro is looking for more ensemble work and he’s just hopped aboard another varied line-up for a film that couldn’t be more different. According to Deadline, he’s set to star in James Gunn‘s superhero space summer tentpole Guardians Of The Galaxy.

While we don’t know his precise role yet, it’s one that reportedly has a long life in the future Marvel universe, as his contract sees him in multiple films. We recently heard rumors of the casting of a liaison character to the Guardians, so perhaps this is where he’ll fit in. Chances are also strong he won’t be Khan, but he will be joining Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace,  Dave Bautista, Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly and the recently added Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame, who will be taking the role of lead villain.

Production kicks off soon for an August 2014 release.
