With Ben Affleck not securing an Oscar nomination for Best Director, we thought Steven Spielberg had the major Academy Awards all but locked up for his historical drama Lincoln, but as we’ve progressed throughout the awards season, it looks like it will be a tight race for Best Picture. Last night, the Argo helmer picked up the top prize at the Directors Guild Awards for his work, beating out Kathryn Bigelow for Zero Dark Thirty, Tom Hooper for Les Misérables, Ang Lee for Life of Pi and Steven Spielberg for Lincoln.

Other top honors went to Malik Bendjelloul for his documentary Searching for Sugar Man, as well as Jay Roach and his HBO movie Game Change for Best TV Movie and even Looper helmer Rian Johnson got recognized for his work on Breaking Bad. Alejandro González Iñárritu also got recognized for his commercial Best Job, which can be seen below, along with a photo of all the Best Director nominees together. One can also see the rest of the winners on the official DGA website.

Do you think Argo can bring home the Best Picture Oscar?
