While projects like The Wolfman and Savages left much to be desired, Benicio Del Toro is coming back in a major way in the next couple of years. He’s part of two eclectic ensembles for two very different projects, Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Inherent Vice and James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy, but today brings a look at one of his independent efforts, the biopic Paradise Lost.

Coming from Pathe (via Bleeding Cool, who also have behind the scenes video), above one can see Del Toro playing the infamous crime figure Pablo Escobar in the film from Life of Pi scribe Andrea di Stefano, who is behind the pen and camera. While some might expect a crime drama, the film is actually a romantic thriller following a surfer, Nick (Josh Hutcherson), who falls in love with a girl, Maria, whilst visiting his brother in Colombia. Check out an official synopsis below for the film that could end up on the fall film festival circuit.

Young surfer Nick thinks all his dreams have come true when he goes to visit his brother in Colombia. Against an idyllic backdrop of blue lagoons and white beaches he falls madly in love with a beautiful Colombian girl called Maria. It all seems perfect until he meets her uncle, one Pablo Escobar.

Are you looking forward to seeing Del Toro take this role?
