As we’ve wrapped up in multiple venues, this year’s Sundance Film Festivals brought its fair share of surprises, in both excellent offerings and truly head-scratching ones. We’ve now got the first footage from one in the latter category with a clip from Fredrik Bond’s directorial debut The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. A tell-tale sign that things didn’t go as planned up in Park City, with the film, despite featuring major stars such as Shia LaBeouf, Evan Rachel Wood, Rupert Grint, Mads Mikkelsen, Til Schweiger and Melissa Leo, left without distribution.
Now, in an effort to stir up some more buzz, producers have provided MTV with this clip, which features a scene about a third through the film with our two main stars. It’s evocative of the tone we can expect, with its music video vibes and upbeat style. Unfortunately, as we laid out in our review, it doesn’t work. We said the movie is a “visually and audibly distracted aggravation…constantly searching for a reason to keep going and constantly failing to make a valid case for itself.” Judge for yourself below as producers search for distribution going into Berlin.
