Our favorite Norse God has a new face amongst his ensemble. During this year’s Star Trek: Las Vegas convention, South African actress Alice Krige (the Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact and the Star Trek: Voyager series) announced that she will be making a small, unnamed appearance in the upcoming Alan Taylor directed sequel, Thor: The Dark World.
The blockbuster continues the god of thunder’s story post-The Avengers, focusing on his relationship with his father, Odin, and his earthbound love, Jane Foster. The film will take Thor beyond Asgard and Earth/Midgard, bringing him through the rest of the nine realms. It will also focus on the return of his evil half-brother, Loki, to Asgard to face justice just as a new threat appears in the form of Malekith the Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim (Christopher Eccleston).
Outside of Eccleston, news has been slow on Thor 2‘s casting front as of late, so this casting is welcoming. However, Krige hasn’t said much about her role, only mentioning that her appearance will be small and that she may not be recognizable in the film. Her time on Star Trek has given her experience with make-up and prosthetics. Perhaps she’ll be playing a mythical creature of some sort? Other sources have surmised that she’ll be playing Alflyse, the queen of the Dark Elves, a role that would fit the bill given the character’s blue skin, dark hair, and other more-alien qualities. Though she’s a lesser known character in the Marvel Universe, her story has mixed in the past with that of Thor and of Malekith, making her a reliable possibility for the seasoned Krige.
Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Tadanobu Asano and Ray Stevenson are all slated to return for the sequel alongside newcomers Eccleston and Zachary Levi. Thor: The Dark World arrives on November 15th, 2013. [CBM]
