With The Neon Demon recently wrapping, Nicolas Winding Refn will be busy in post-production over the next few months with an intended completion by early next year, but as per usual with the director, he has other projects on the mind. Rumored a few years ago, it now looks like The Avenging Silence may be his next film, according to a new interview with Collider.

Once said to be a sequel to Valhalla Rising set in Tokyo, Refn has now cleared up a bit about what that exactly means. “Yeah, it’s basically a character that appears in my other movies that will now appear again. Having done The Neon Demon, which was predominantly women protagonists, but the character that Mads [Mikkelsen] plays in Valhalla Rising, Ryan [Gosling] plays him in Drive or Vithaya [Pansringarm] in Only God Forgives, I want to make a new movie with that character.”

He adds a bit more, saying that it’s set in the spy genre and that it will “probably” be his next film. Unfortunately he doesn’t go much further than that, but the idea of seeing his vision in the vibrant location has some enticing possibilities. Check out the brief interview below as we await more details, particularly the casting.
