Joe Carnahan, director of the assassin fueled Smokin Aces and the soon to be released The A-Team big screen adaptation, is already talking rumors about what his next project might be and it seems he doesn’t want to give up on his comic book violence obsession.
In his crosshairs are one beloved comic book franchise Preacher and one relatively obscure Marvel franchise Taskmaster. While Preacher, which has been in development for nearly ten years now and was most notably going to proceed under the vision of Sam Mendes, seems like a daunting task with its complex story-lines and religiously offensive subject matter but Carnahan claims he is up for the challenge.
“I’m kind of desperate to do another comic book adaptation,” he told us. “And the other thing I’m really keen on or interested in is ‘Preacher‘ because I’m a big Garth Ennis fan and I love that series and that’s out there, and that might be something… I really love that. You gotta do the Allfather (D’Aronique) and all that crazy sh*t and I haven’t seen a script and I don’t know what it is, but yeah, we’ll see. Who knows?” Source Superhero Hype
As for Taskmaster, which is about a villain with photographic reflexes, the comic is a bit more under the radar and seems better suited for Carnahan’s somewhat slapstick directorial style. Preacher, which is one of my all time favorite comic franchises, seems to beckon for the hands of a more nuanced and bold filmmaker but in either case it could prove interesting to see what kind of a comic book mayhem Carnahan could produce.
