It’s difficult to believe less than two years ago, one wouldn’t bat an eye at the name Jessica Chastain. But now, after roles in The Tree of Life, The Help, Take Shelter, Zero Dark Thirty and much more, the actress seems to be at the top of every Hollywood shortlist. Now, after Michelle Williams took over a role she was contending for in The Double Hour remake, Chastain is returning the favor.
According to Variety, the actress lined up the lead role in the next film from Ingmar Bergman‘s go-to actress Liv Ullmann, one that was previously attached to Williams. In her first feature film since 2000’s Faithless, Ullmann will direct an adaptation of August Strindberg‘s Miss Julie play. Chastain will reportedly be joined by Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton (who recently popped up in Cosmopolis) in the 1874-set film that “follows a woman trying to escape an existence cramped by social mores who is suddenly drawn to a senior servant.”
With tested material, a fantastic cast, and Ullmann finally returning behind the camera, this one easily marks one of our most-anticipated films of 2014, so check back for updates as they arrive, including many more from Chastain, who is reportedly “weighing” her many options this year.
