la-quietud-1

After getting on our radar with The Clan a few years back, Pablo Trapero is back with his seemingly highest-profile film yet, the thriller La Quietud. Starring Martina Gusmán, Bérénice Bejo and Edgar Ramírez, it follows sisters who reunite to reflect on a haunted past and the ownership of their family estate in the backdrop of am Argentina dictatorship.

Ahead of an international release in May–timed well for a potential Cannes debut–the first trailer has now arrived, which is high on emotion as familial conflicts ensue. It also looks like Trapero’s eye for tension is fully intact. Check out the teaser trailer and synopsis below.

After long years of absence, and following her father’s stroke, Eugenia returns to La Quietud, the family estate near Buenos Aires where she is reunited with her mother and sister. The three women are forced to confront the emotional traumas and dark secrets of their shared past, which played out against the backdrop of the military dictatorship. Long-buried grievances resurface and jealousies are revealed, all amplified by the unsettling physical resemblance between the two sisters… Following the multi-award winning EL CLAN, director Pablo Trapero continues his exploration of family and the legacy of Argentina’s troubled past.

La Quietud hit theaters in Argentina on May 10.
