Academy Award viewers got perhaps the best surprise of the night as the first teaser trailer for Martin Scorsese’s highly-anticipated crime epic The Irishman arrived. Before one gets too excited, however, there’s no footage but we do hear a familiar voice and Netflix also confirms a theatrical release this fall.

Based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses, the crime drama brings together Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Anna Paquin, and Bobby Cannavale in the story of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a mob hitman whose illustrious career is today best-known for supposed involvement in the death of Jimmy Hoffa.

The Irishman is not Goodfellas,” editor Thelma Schoonmaker recently said. “And that’s what they think it’s going to be. It’s not. It is not Goodfellas. It’s completely different. It’s wonderful. They’re going to love it. But please don’t think it’s gonna be Goodfellas, because it isn’t.”

See the teaser below.

The Irishman arrives this fall in theaters and on Netflix.
