Entertainment Weekly is now reporting that Bryan Singer (Valkyrie) is interested in directing Prisoners.  Singer told EW: “I don’t know yet. But I’m definitely intrigued. It’s a great script. And I’d love to work with Mark.” Mark Wahlberg (The Happening) is set to star as a father who’s daughter gets kidnapped and he decides to take the law into his own hands.

I’m a big fan of Singer. I love The Usual Suspects and I really liked X2. The first  X-Men was also good. I actually thought Superman Returns was well-done and gets a bad rep. His latest film, Valkyrie was a pretty solid thriller. That said, I think this premise sounds pretty generic. To me it sounds like another movie with Mark Wahlberg trying to act badass. I am a bit skeptical of Walberg’s talent after The Happening and Max Payne, so I’m not too excited about anything with his name on it now. Though I am sure he will redeem himself this year in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones. I am sure Singer could do something interesting with this, but I would rather see him do his always talked about remake of Logan’s Run or even a sequel to Superman Returns. Though it seems pretty unlikely we will see a sequel to Superman Returns now, too bad if you ask me.

What do you think of Singer directing Prisoners?
