After crafting one of the finest films of last year, and their career for that matter, with Inside Llewyn Davis, the wait for the next film from Joel and Ethan Coen will be a little longer than expected. With production kicking off shortly, Universal Pictures have announced a February 5th, 2016 release for the 1950’s-set drama Hail, Caesar!.

The date may seem initially strange for some, considering it’s not exactly the awards territory the brothers usually occupy. Looking a little deeper though, we imagine Universal saw the lack of gratuitous statues for their last film and then the massive success of The Grand Budapest Hotel this year and with the film’s star-studded cast, decided to go with this early-year date. As we endure the long wait, check out the synopsis below, as well as extensive talks with cinematographer Roger Deakins (who will return to shoot on film) on two Coen collaborations and, via Refocused Media, a 20-minute video essay on their career.

Four-time Oscar®-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Fargo) write and direct HAIL, CAESAR!, an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill, HAIL, CAESAR! follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix. The comedy is produced by the Coen brothers under their Mike Zoss Productions banner, with Working Title Films and Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.

Are you looking forward to Hail, Caesar!?
