Tomas Alfredson‘s modern masterpiece Let The Right One In was recently remade to mild success by Matt Reeves and now the Swedish director is attached to a new period fantasy tale at Warner Bros.

Heat Vision is reporting he will direct an adaptation of Philip Reeve‘s 2006 book Larklight, with Eastern PromisesSteve Knight taking on the script. The film is set in a “Victorian-era alternate universe in which mankind has been exploring the solar system since the time of Isaac Newton and revolves around a brother and sister who team with a band of renegade space pirates to save the world from destruction at the hands of a madman.”

Mere words can’t express how unique and exciting this project sounds. Alfredson was known for his mostly subtle, low-key filmmaking in Let The Right One In, so I’m interested in if he will change things up here. He is also currently working on Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy, “an espionage thriller” featuring a stellar cast of Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Jared Harris and Ciaran Hinds. Expect a 2011 release for his English-language debut.
