Let’s put this right at the top: Cannes President Thierry Frémaux, in an interview with Le Figaro, stated that Jean-Luc Godard “has just started shooting his next film.” (Thanks to Richard Brody for the notice.) This is not necessarily new news — the New York Film Festival press notes for Goodbye to Language said he’s “already hard at work on a new project”; this was in the fall of 2014 — and certainly not extensive, but it’s about as good as a film-related notice can get. We are greatly interested in hearing whatever comes next.
If this has put you in a particularly Godard-centric mood, consider viewing this 115-minute lecture on his first 13 films from educator and filmmaker Zoran Amar. Filled with clips, notes, citations, and Godard-esque side trips with other lecturers, it’s a fine choice for both listening and viewing.
