It’s taken, oh, about a century for the true rise of women directors to take hold, and it’s not about to stop. Deadline reports that choreographer-turned-director Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, Step Up) is set to direct Alone for the Holidays, based on an original script by SNL head writer Seth Meyers for Fox 2000.
There are no plot or casting details just yet, but word is the script is set in New York, with production to begin this fall for a release around the 2013 holiday season. Real Steel director Shawn Levy‘s 21 Laps Entertainment will produce, along with Michael Stipe and Sandy Stern’s Single Cell Pictures, and James Franco’s Rabbit Bandini Productions. Fletcher‘s The Proposal, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, was a surprise hit, grossing over $160 million domestically on a $40 million budget… and it wasn’t half bad. She’s definitely in a position to call her own shots, and aligning herself with an SNL vet, like Meyers, is a savvy move. She’s just wrapped the Barbra Streisand–Seth Rogen comedy The Guilt Trip (yeah, that pairing is happening), with an eye for a November 2nd release.
The title of this project is depressingly generic, but Meyers is pretty sharp, and he appears to be following former SNL head writer Tina Fey‘s career path; that certainly worked out for her. The plot details should prove interesting, along with the potential casting. As always, stay tuned.
What do you think of this pairing? Are you a fan of Fletcher or Meyers’?
