Oren Moverman, the man behind The Messenger, has seemingly landed his next project. Risky Biz reports that Moverman has signed on to Universal‘s untitled Kurt Cobain biopic. Moverman has not only signed on to direct, but to revise the screenplay as well. The screenplay had been previously worked on in 2007 by David Benioff (Brothers), but Universal is hoping that the Oscar-nominated Moverman can clean it up.
The script will be primarily adapted from Charles R. Cross’ 2001 biography Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain. Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, and Graham Larson are set to produce. Courtney Love, the widow of Cobain, has committed to an executive producer position along with her lawyer, Howard Weitzman.
Moverman is also attached with screenwriter and director credits to This Side of the Looking Glass, a New York City drama about an aging writer. The status of the film is currently unknown according to IMDb, and it makes one wonder which of these two projects is Moverman’s priority.
Based on the limited information regarding these two Moverman projects, which one would you like to see get made first?
