On the heels of the commercial success of his American blockbuster debut Safe House, Swedish director Daniel Espinosa‘s breakout drug film Snabba Cash (a.k.a. Easy Money) is coming to America on July 27, 2012, via The Weinstein Company.

Snabba Cash tells three connected tales centered on drug-running and those running them, most especially on the young man who runs coke for a dangerous dealer.

The film, which was released in most international markets in 2010, has launched the careers of both Espinosa and actor Joel Kinnaman, who went on to star as the complicated cop Holder on AMC’s divisive show The Killing.

It seems to be that if you are a foreign filmmaker looking to get into the U.S. film market, making a film about drug running is the way to go. Just ask Danny Boyle (Trainspotting), Nicolas Winding Refn (the Pusher trilogy) and Espinosa.

Weinstein bought the U.S. rights nearly two years ago, well before the young director’s next movie had either Ryan Reynolds or Denzel Washington attached. There’s even an American remake in the works with Zac Efron attached, though it appears to have fizzled as there hasn’t been any new news on that in nearly two years as well.

Have you seen Snabba Cash? Are you more likely to if you know that it’s directed by the guy who directed Safe House?
