According to Variety, Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to direct and star in Jack Goes Boating with Amy Ryan. Hoffman will play Jack, a stoner limo driver, and the story will center around his quest for perfection, as well as the fellow pothead he falls in love with (Ryan). A New York Times review of the play called it “immensely likable.” The film will begin shooting in New York City on February 9th.

Hoffman is one of the finest actors of our generation, growing up near my hometown in Fairport, NY.  He has starred in some of my favorite films in recent years such as Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead, Synecdoche, NY, The Savages, MI:3, Doubt and his Oscar-winning performance in Capote. I also love Amy Ryan, especially in 2007’s Gone Baby Gone, a heavily overlooked film. I also enjoyed her short stint in The Office. This sounds like it will be a winner, I know Hoffman has directed many plays so I can’t wait to see what he does behind the camera.

Do you like Hoffman? Excited for Jack Goes Boating?
