As promised last monthClive Owen has returned as The Driver in a new BMW short film. After John Frankenheimer, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-wai, Guy Ritchie, Alejandro González Iñárritu, John Woo, Joe Carnahan, and Tony Scott helped direct “The Hire” series around the turn of the century, Neill Blomkamp has now taken the helm for The Escape.

Also starring Dakota Fanning, Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga, the short finds Owen’s character attempting to get a last living clone to safety (although, despite a similar premise,  this one doesn’t quite have the vibes of Children of Men) when Bernthal’s mercenary character tries to make things more difficult.

For those hoping the films may continue it is said to be a “relaunch” of the series, but only this one has been made and no other additional details have been given yet. Perhaps if this one is a hit, we’ll get the announcement of follow-ups, so check out the short below, along with a pair of behind-the-scenes videos and posters.

After the controversial disappearance of their Chief Medical Officer, a shadowy bio genetics company is under siege by the FBI for secretly cloning humans. Amidst the chaos, Molgen’s head mercenary Holt (Jon Bernthal) is sneaking out the last living clone, a young woman named Lily (Dakota Fanning) to a mysterious buyer. Holt has hired The Driver (Clive Owen), accompanied by a heavily armed squadron of fellow Molgen mercenaries, to evade the authorities and deliver Lily and himself to the buyer. The journey takes an unexpected turn and Holt is forced to take matters into his own hands, as the driver once again demonstrates his mettle and extraordinary driving skills.
