We didn’t see much of him on screens last year, but Oscar Isaac has been quite busy. This year, we’ll see him in the next Star Wars film, along with the George Clooney-directed Suburbicon, as well as alongside Christian Bale in The Promise next month, not to mention next year in Alex Garland’s Annihilation next year. He’s now found his next role, according to Deadline.
The Inside Llewyn Davis star is set to lead the WWII drama Operation Finale, which will be directed by Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Twilight Saga: New Moon). Described as a drama akin to Argo and Munich, it will follow his character as an Israeli spy named Peter Malkin, who hunts down the Nazi general Adolf Eichmann, as scripted by Matthew Orton. Production is expected to begin this fall in Argentina, so we could see it by next year.
In other news, the Puppet Master franchise has been steadily going since it launched in 1989, but it’s latest iteration will feature a little more star power. Thomas Lennon and Udo Kier have been set to star in Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, which has already begun production in Dallas, according to Variety. Directed by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund, perhaps the biggest draw is that the script is from Bone Tomahawk‘s S. Craig Zahler.
This next iteration promises more puppet mayhem as the film follows a man who plans to sell a recently discovered Blade doll at a toy convention. The event takes place during the 30th anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders, but all hell soon breaks loose as the puppets at the convention go on a killing spree.
Lastly, after premiering her latest film Spoor (our review), Agnieszka Holland isn’t taking as long of a break with her follow-up. An adaptation of Peter Swansons‘ novel The Kind Worth Killing is being set for the big screen under her direction, and Deadline reports that Amber Heard is set to star. Christopher Kyle (Serena, Alexander) is set to adapt the story about a mysterious killer Lily who meets a man on a red eye. When he confesses his urges to kill his unfaithful wife, Lily suggests she help. With that, the pair set off on a strange and disturbed relationship with plots of murder on their mind.
