Last year brought two major breakthroughs from international stars with Matthias Schoenaerts and his Oscar-nominated Bullhead, as well as Berenice Bejo with her Best Picture-winning The Artist. We’ve now got updates for future projects that will see both stars in major roles yet again. First up, Variety lets us know that Schoenaerts, who can recently be seen in Rust & Bone, will be reteaming with his Bullhead director Michael R. Roskam for his third feature The Faithful.
The project, which will shoot in the spring of 2014 after Roskam’s Hollywood debut Animal Rescue with Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace begins production this spring, is a film noir that follows a Brussels cime gang. While there’s no more script details, it’s revealed that Roskam is currently working on the script with a major, undisclosed screenwriter.
That’s not all for Schoenaerts, as he’s also been cast in Robin Pront‘s directorial debut The Ardennes. Written Bullhead actor Jeroen Perceval, the road movie follows “three young Belgian losers who embark on a fateful trip to The Ardennes forest, near the border of France, to get rid of a corpse.” While there’s no word on when production will begin, the script has been compared to a mix of Trainspotting and Fargo.
As for Bejo, Variety also lets us know the actress has jumped aboard writer/director Michele Placido‘s drama The Choice. Based on Luigi Pirandello‘s novel, the French-language film will follow “a woman who discovers she is pregnant following a rape. She and her husband, who haven’t been able to conceive a child, are faced with a terrible choice.” Production is set to begin late next year, but one can next see Bejo in The Past, from A Separation director Asghar Farhadi — a project likely set to debut at Cannes.
