In the wake of the 2012 Berlin Film Festival, THR has just reported that the “Finnish Nazis-from-space” film, Iron Sky, will get a U.S. premiere this upcoming weekend at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Entertainment One obtained the distributing rights for the film, which had its world premiere at Berlin.

Directed  by Timo Vuorensola, the projected actually started online where it obtained crowdsourced financing. It enlisted Internet fans at each stage of production to help design the uniforms for the Nazis in space. It stars Julia Dietze, Gotz Otto, Christopher Kirby and Udo Kier. I haven’t really seen many films that enlist the help of its projected audience, so the whole idea of the film is intriguing. Plus, who doesn’t love the whole concept of Nazis in space?

And if you need more convincing about the film’s plot, its been described as the “Citizen Kane of Nazis-in-Space movies.” The VP of theatrical marketing and distribution at Entertainment One, Dylan Wiley, gushed over the U.S. release stating, “we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it to North American audiences, where its dedicated and rabid fan base is already demanding the film.”

No release date has been set, but the film will be a part of the Midnighters sidebar at SXSW this weekend.

Is Iron Sky something you have your eye on?
