According to Heat Vision Blog, future Roman Flowers Mary Elizabeth Winstead and young Uncle Owen Joel Edgerton will be headlining the newest remake/prequel/reboot/reimagining/homogenization of The Thing From Another World. It seemed like the initial report was that this was indeed a prequel to John Carpenter‘s classic 1982 remake, The Thing, but this very article seems to make no mention of that.

Winstead is a very talented and attractive actress and Edgerton has been praised for his stage work (most notably A Streetcar Named Desire alongside Cate Blanchett) so it’s nice to see that this project has at least a little promise and prestige to it. It’s being directed by first-timer Matthijs Van Heijnignen and as with all cases of a newbie at the helm of a genre remake, it’s not too promising. It is co-written by Battlestar Galactica mastermind Ronald D. Moore but keep in mind the co-written part. I’m sure his intelligent screenplay got hacked to bits by the Hollywood notes system.

The Thing will start shooting this March in Toronto.

Would you like to see another The Thing film or should it just be left at Carpenter’s masterpiece?
