It’s what happens when your film makes $56 million on its opening weekend, and on a $40 million budget. Deadline Hollywood‘s reporting a sequel to The Karate Kid is already in the works over at Sony.

There’s no word on what it’ll be about, but one would assume it won’t star Hilary Swank, which is a good play perhaps.

Despite the success, both critical and financial, of the film, what does it say about now-a-days that we’re getting a sequel to a remake of a film that only came out 25 years ago.

Sure, it’s been going on since the beginning of film, but remakes have taken over most studio fare, to the point of over-saturation. It’s just tiring, that’s all.
