Two new Hugh Jackman updates have come our way today. The first is regarding Precious director Lee Daniels‘ next project, Selma. Jackman has joined the film, which chronicles the “historic 1965 march in the Alabama town that marked the political and emotional peak of the civil rights movement.” In an interview with USA Today Lee Daniels confirmed Jackman is the only cast member locked. Robert De Niro was previously rumored. The film is still scheduled for a May shoot, but that makes Jackman pretty busy as he is shooting the comedy Avon Man next month, the robot-boxing movie Real Steel this summer and the sequel to Wolverine in January, which we have more details on below.

Roger Friedman has reported that Wolverine 2 script by Christopher McQuarrie (X-Men, Valkyrie) has been finished and they are set to shoot in January. This adventure would put Wolverine 2 in Japan and a source said “Wolverine’s adventures in martial arts will be a love story featuring a Japanese actress. It’s a beautiful story and will be very different than the first film.”

Hopefully with this film (who has no director attached) and Bryan Singer returning for another X-Men it will pull the franchise out of the hole that was Brett Ratner‘s Last Stand and the recent Wolverine. While I don’t think either film is horribly unwatchable, they are quite a downgrade from Singer’s first two X-Men films. As for Selma, I didn’t think Precious was well-directed, but it sounds like a good project for Jackman.

What do you think about all of Jackman’s upcoming projects? Which are you most excited for?
