Yup, according to the LA Times Bob Weinstein of Dimension Films has decided to move forward with a third Halloween that is tentatively titled Halloween 3D and is set for a summer 2010 release. This is most likely in response to Halloween II losing the weekend box office to The Final Destination in 3D. Also, the studio has decided not to move forward with Rob Zombie at the helm. Instead they are opting for a new director (who is currently unnamed) who according to Weinstein has a “different take” on the franchise.
The original Halloween by John Carpenter is one of my favorite films of all time. When I saw the remake, though I could understand some of the choices Zombie made (see my Rules of The Remake article), I was still saddened by how poor the film was overall. I haven’t seen Halloween II and won’t until it hits home video. The idea that the franchise can be saved by the gimmick of 3D is completely appalling and a little insulting.
