According to Variety, EuropaCorp, the people behind the Pierre Morrel films District B13, Taken, and the recently released From Paris With Love are apparently developing a new 3D sci-fi film called Section 8. They currently names directors are Stephen St. Leger and James Mather. The script is being written by Mather and Luc Besson (as if you expected less). Variety describes the film as follows:
“Section 8” takes place in a prison orbiting 50 miles above the earth. The prison houses 500 of the world’s most dangerous prisoners, who are kept asleep by sophisticated techniques until they suddenly awaken.
The current projected budget for the film is a little over $30 million with shooting to being hopefully by late spring or early summer. No release date has been set but EuropaCorp is in talks with major studios regarding US distribution. $5 bucks says Lionsgate is getting first dibs.
