The trailer for the Australian thriller Red Hill hit the web this weekend, and man is it cheesy.
Red Hill is the familiar story of a few isolated lawmen fighting to protect their small town from a lone escaped criminal. From the looks of the trailer, it has a few twists in store for audiences this fall. With True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten, it even has an obligatory heartthrob.
Of course, any innovation Red Hill brings to the genre could be for nothing if the film is as sickeningly heavy-handed as the trailer below. Did that title card really just say “Revenge just rode into town”? I can’t deny that it’s pretty, though, and if nothing else, writer/director Patrick Hughes will at least have made a stunningly beautiful advertisement for small-town Australia.
Don’t count this movie out yet. It is, after all, practically guaranteed to be better than its trailer. See for yourself below.
